# Import a skill from GitHub or a file

> Bring in a skill written in the open Agent Skills format from a GitHub link or a file, and share yours the same way.

You can bring in a skill someone else wrote, from a GitHub link or a file you upload. It works
right away, like a skill you wrote yourself.

Salesfinity skills use the open **Agent Skills** format: a `SKILL.md` file with a `name` and a
`description` at the top, followed by the steps. A skill written for another AI assistant in this
format can come straight in, and yours can go out the same way.

## Import from GitHub

<Steps>
  <Step title="Copy the link to the SKILL.md file">
    Open the file on github.com and copy the address. It must point at the file itself, like
    `https://github.com/owner/repo/blob/main/path/SKILL.md`. Links to a folder, a whole
    repository, a gist or another site don't work.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste it into Ari">
    Open the Ari panel, switch to **Skills**, and choose **New skill** › **Import from GitHub**.
    Paste the link.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the result">
    The skill shows up with an **Imported** badge. Open it to read the steps and adjust the name or
    description.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The repository must be public. Salesfinity reads the file for you and never asks for your GitHub
login.

## Import from a file

In **Skills**, choose **New skill** › **Upload .md or .zip**, then upload one of these:

* A `.md` file that is the `SKILL.md`.
* A `.zip` of a skill folder. Salesfinity takes only the `SKILL.md` from it.

## What comes in, and what doesn't

Only the `SKILL.md` file. Some skill folders also carry extra files, like scripts or reference
documents. Those are left out. If the skill depends on one of them, copy what matters into the
steps after you import.

The file must start with both a `name` and a `description`. If either is missing, the import stops
and tells you why.

## Limits

| Item | Limit | Over the limit |
| - | - | - |
| Steps | 50,000 characters | The import stops. Ari never cuts steps short, because that would drop instructions. |
| Name | 200 characters | Shortened. Edit it afterwards. |
| Description | 500 characters | Shortened. The import still works. |
| Upload | 5 MB per file. The `SKILL.md` itself, or the one inside a `.zip`, up to 200 KB. | The upload is rejected. |

You can import about 10 skills every 10 minutes. If you go faster, Salesfinity asks you to wait.

## Read a skill before you rely on it

An imported skill gives Ari instructions, just like one you wrote. Treat a skill from someone you
don't know like any file from the internet: read it first.

* Every imported skill shows its full text in **Skills**, so nothing is hidden.
* Salesfinity records where each imported skill came from.
* Whatever a skill says, Ari still asks before it changes anything. See
  [Approve what Ari changes](/ari/approvals-and-permissions).

## Share your own skill

There's no export button, but a skill is already in the right format. Copy the name, description
and steps into a `SKILL.md` file:

```markdown SKILL.md theme={null}
---
name: Pre-call brief
description: One-screen brief on a person and their company before a call.
---
## Goal
...
```

Put it in a public GitHub repository. Any teammate, or any other team, can import it from the link.
