# Run your first parallel session

> Ring up to five contacts at once and get connected only when a real person answers.

By the end of this guide, you will have run a calling session on several lines at once and
logged your first live conversation.

Most calls end in voicemail or no answer. Parallel dialing lets those calls fail at the same
time, in the background, so you spend your session talking instead of waiting.

**AI Parallel Dialing** is available on Gold, Enterprise and Enterprise+ seats. Silver seats dial
one line at a time.

<VideoLoop src="/videos/parallel-dialer.mp4" poster="/videos/posters/parallel-dialer.jpg" caption="Several lines ring at once. Voicemail and busy lines drop off, and the person who answers comes straight through." aspect="30/19" />

**Before you start:** have a contact list with phone numbers, a headset or microphone, and at least
one outbound number. See [Choose the numbers you call from](/dialer/phone-numbers) if you have
none yet.

## Run a session

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn on AI Parallel Dialing">
    In **Dialer**, click **Preferences**. Turn on **AI Parallel Dialing**, then set **Parallel Dials
    per Call** to the number of lines you want. Click **Save**.

    New seats start with parallel dialing on and 3 lines.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a list">
    Choose a contact list. The header counts who is **Ready to dial**, who is **Missing phone
    numbers**, who is **Out of work hours**, and who is **Snoozed** or on **Do not call**.

    To dial only some people, tick their rows. The button changes to **Dial selected**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start dialing">
    Click **Start dialing**. In **Audio Check**, test your microphone and speaker, then click
    **Start Dialing**. The header changes to **Calling session** and shows how many calls are left.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Talk to the person who answers">
    Salesfinity rings the next batch of contacts. When a person answers, you hear them right away.
    Dialing pauses and the other lines in that batch hang up.

    The contact's details open next to the call, so you know who you're talking to.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log it and keep going">
    When the call ends, the **Call Outcome** panel opens. Pick a **Disposition**, add a note, and
    click **Log call and continue**. The next batch starts ringing.

    See [Drop voicemails and log every call](/dialer/voicemail-and-dispositions) for every field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="End the session">
    Click **End Session** when you are done. Your **Session recap** shows dials, connects,
    conversations and meetings for the session.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You're done when you have logged one live conversation and the recap shows your session.

## What happens on each line

Salesfinity listens to the first moments of each call to tell a person from a machine. In
**Preferences**, this shows as "Lightning AMD runs automatically" under **AI Parallel Dialing**.

| What picks up | What happens |
| - | - |
| A person | You are connected. The other lines in the batch hang up. |
| Voicemail or an answering machine | Salesfinity leaves your recorded voicemail if **Voicemail Drop** is on. If not, it hangs up. You never hear it. |
| Nobody, or a busy line | The call ends and is logged as **No Answer** for you. |
| A second person, while you are already talking | Salesfinity hangs up on them, because you can only take one call at a time. |

Calls that never reach you are logged on their own, so you only fill in the form for real
conversations.

<Note>
  If a contact's number screened one of your calls before, Salesfinity dials that number by itself
  and puts you on the line from the first ring. That way you can answer the screener yourself. The
  [Automated Call Screener](/dialer/call-screener) can play your intro instead.
</Note>

## Choose how many lines to dial

More lines mean fewer gaps between conversations. Fewer lines mean fewer people answer while you
are already busy.

* **Before a session:** set **Parallel Dials per Call** in **Preferences**. You can pick 1 to 5.
* **During a session:** change **Lines** above the call queue. The change applies after the
  current calls finish.

Your admin can set a lower maximum for your seat, or turn parallel dialing off. If a setting is
locked, it says **Set by your admin** when you hover it.

## Let SmartFlow pick the lines

**SmartFlow** decides how many people to ring in each batch. It looks at each contact, such as
whether they have a mobile number, a senior title, or notes, and their [Boss Mode](/dialer/boss-mode)
grade when Boss Mode is on. Contacts who are likely to answer are rung in smaller batches. Contacts
who are less likely to answer are rung in bigger ones, up to five.

To turn it on, open **Preferences** and switch on **SmartFlow (Automated Multiple Number
Dialing)** under **AI Parallel Dialing**. While SmartFlow is on, the **Lines** setting is greyed out.

SmartFlow needs AI Parallel Dialing on, and it is available on Gold, Enterprise and Enterprise+.

## Pause, hang up, or stop

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Pause dialing** | Stops new calls from starting. Calls already ringing finish. Click **Resume dialing** to go on. |
| **Hangup Calls** | Hangs up every line that is ringing now. |
| **End Session** | Hangs up everything and ends the session. |
| **Log and pause** | Logs the call you just had and keeps dialing paused. |

## Who gets skipped

The dialer leaves some contacts out of a session so you don't call the wrong people:

* **Out of work hours.** With **Dial During Work Hours** on, the dialer only calls people between
  8 AM and 6 PM in their own time zone. It is on by default.
* **Do not call.** A number someone on your team logged as **Answered - Do not call again** is
  never dialed again by your team.
* **Snoozed.** Contacts you snoozed come back on the date you picked.
* **Missing phone numbers.** Contacts without a number can't be dialed. [Find their
  numbers](/enrichment/contacts) first.
