# Run your first dialing session

> Import a list, set your lines, and make live calls in about 10 minutes.

By the end of this guide, you will have called a list on several lines at once and logged your first conversation.
It takes about 10 minutes, and you only need a list of people with phone numbers.

<Info>
  **Before you start:** use Chrome or another desktop browser, and have a headset ready. Parallel
  dialing is available on the Gold, Enterprise and Enterprise+ plans. On the Silver plan, the dialer
  calls one line at a time, and every other step here works the same way.
</Info>

## How a session works

You pick a list and press **Start dialing**. Salesfinity calls a few people on the list at the same
time. When a real person answers, you are connected right away and the other lines hang up. You
talk, pick an outcome, and the dialer moves on to the next people on your list.

## Make your first calls

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in and open the dialer">
    Go to [web.salesfinity.co](https://web.salesfinity.co/dashboard/dialer) and sign in with Google,
    Microsoft, your email, or your company's single sign-on.

    Click **Dialer** in the left sidebar. When your browser asks to use your microphone, click
    **Allow**. The dialer cannot place calls without it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Bring in a list">
    If this is your first time, the dialer shows **Import contacts**. Click it and choose where your
    people come from:

    * **A CSV file.** Upload it, then match your columns to Salesfinity fields, such as name and phone number.
    * **Your CRM or sales tool.** Pick a list from a connected tool such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Outreach, Salesloft or Apollo.io.

    Already have lists? Click **Recent lists** to switch between them. The list name at the top of
    the dialer shows how many people are ready to dial, for example **(42 of 50)**. A warning icon
    means some people are missing a phone number.

    <Tip>
      No list yet? On the Enterprise plans you can ask Ari to build one from a plain-language
      description. See [Build a list to call](/tutorials/overview).
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick the number you call from">
    At the top of the dialer, open **Select number** and choose the phone number your calls will
    come from. No numbers yet? Click **Manage numbers** to get one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your lines and voicemail">
    Click **Preferences** to open **Dialer Preferences**.

    * Turn on **AI Parallel Dialing**. Then choose how many lines to dial at once under **Parallel Dials per Call**. You can dial up to 5 lines. The default is 3, and your admin can set a lower limit for the team.
    * Or turn on **SmartFlow** to let Salesfinity choose the number of lines for you.
    * To leave a message when a machine answers, turn on **Voicemail Drop** and pick a recording. To record one, click **Manage Voicemails**, then **Add New Voicemail**.

    Click **Save**. You can also change the number of lines from the **Lines** menu above your call
    queue. A change there applies after the current calls finish.

    <Note>
      If a setting is grayed out with "This feature is not available in your plan", your plan does
      not include it. Ask your Salesfinity admin.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start dialing">
    Click **Start dialing**. The **Audio Check** window opens. Click **Test microphone** and
    **Test speaker** to make sure people will hear you, then click **Start Dialing**.

    The top of the dialer now says **Calling session** and counts the calls left. Use
    **Pause dialing** to take a break, or **End Session** when you are done.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Talk to the person who answers">
    Salesfinity listens on every line and only connects you when a person answers. When that happens:

    * The top of the dialer turns to **Connected** and starts a timer.
    * The other lines hang up, and dialing pauses while you talk.
    * Lines that reach an answering machine get your voicemail drop, if you turned it on. If not, they hang up.
    * Busy lines and calls nobody answers never ring through to you.

    Click **End Call** when the conversation is over. Once a call ends, **Redial** calls the same number again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log the call and keep going">
    The **Call Outcome** panel sits next to the call. Choose a **Disposition**, such as a booked
    meeting or a wrong number. Some CRMs ask for one or two more fields here. You can also:

    * Write a **Call note**, or click **Generate** for an AI summary of the call, if your plan includes it.
    * Add a **Follow-up Task** with a date.
    * **Snooze contact** to hold the person back from dialing for a few weeks or months.

    Click **Log call and continue** to save and keep dialing. Click **Log and pause** to save and
    take a break first. If the list came from your CRM, Salesfinity logs the call to that record for you.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Check your work

You are done when:

<Check>You talked to at least one person and logged a disposition.</Check>
<Check>The dialer moved on to the next people on your list after you logged the call.</Check>
<Check>You clicked **End Session** to finish.</Check>

Want to call back the people who did not pick up? Click **Recent lists** and choose
**No answer calls from today** or **Cancelled calls from today**.

## If something goes wrong

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Start dialing is grayed out">
    Hover over the button to see why. "No contacts to dial or missing phone numbers" means the list
    has nobody with a phone number. "All of your contacts are out of work hours" means everyone on
    the list is outside calling hours right now. Pick another list, or add phone numbers.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="People can't hear me">
    Click **Start dialing** again and run **Test microphone** in the **Audio Check** window. Make
    sure the right microphone is selected and that your browser is allowed to use it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I only see one line">
    The **Lines** menu only shows when your plan includes parallel dialing. On the Silver plan, the
    dialer calls one line at a time.
